Linklaters advises Berlin FinTech topi on a new funding facility by Macquarie Bank Europe

Linklaters has advised the Berlin-headquartered FinTech topi on the successful set-up of a partnership with Macquarie Bank Europe ("Macquarie") and the securing of a new funding facility to finance the growth strategy of the Hardware-as-a-Service solutions provider.

The collaboration with Macquarie allows topi to further scale up in the future and to strengthen its position in order to capture a greater market share. The new funding provided will enable the company to further invest in and support its strategic relationships with resellers/IT retailers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as its seamless integration into their respective systems. This allows topi to offer business customers a tailored rental service and continuously improve the customer experience.

For Linklaters, Jördis Heckt-Harbeck (Counsel), Dr. Kurt Dittrich (Partner, both Lead), and Eva Friederike Köhler (Associate, Capital Markets, Frankfurt) were involved.

Background: topi was founded in 2021 by Charlotte Pallua, formerly in Apple's sales strategy team, and Estelle Merle, a former Goldman Sachs banker. Johannes Häner came on board at the beginning of 2023 and was appointed CFO as of January 2024. Business customers can rent IT equipment such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones through the Hardware-as-a-Service platform. This offers flexibility, access to the latest technology, the recycling of used devices into the circular economy, and cost savings. Topi manages the entire lifecycle of the devices, including payment processing, contract management, repairs, upgrades, and remarketing. Investors include Creandum, Index Ventures, TriplePoint Capital, as well as founders and early employees of Adyen, Stripe, and N26.
